Description: Saracino was commissioned by the Skriptura Institute in Brussels to design a monument to Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, the founder of the Futurist movement, on the hundredth anniversary of the movement. The Skriptura Institute was established by the Marinetti family, which continues to inspire the arts across disciplines and throughout Europe and the world. Saracino’s monument to Marinetti functions as both a boat and a bridge to the future, and incorporates mirror-finished stainless steel and an electric generator. Visitors walking between the monument’s ribs can move pedals on the spine, generating an electrical current that illuminates the sculpture, causing it to glow with the human presence. The monument was conceived for Rome’s gardens of Castel Sant’Angelo, very near Marinetti’s former home.
